Philip Morris USA's role is to responsibly and effectively, develop, manufacture and market superior branded cigarettes and smokeless products for adult tobacco consumers.
We are currently seeking a highly qualified Associate Manager Wastewater Technician to join our Wastewater Operations department in Chester, VA.
Provides leadership and technical guidance to PM USA to maintain and improve Park 500:
Water; Wastewater; and Natural Treatment System (NTS) operations.
Utilizes available and implements new technologies to reduce costs; ensure regulatory compliance; and lower PM USA's environmental footprint.
Key
Responsibilities:
Manages Park 500 Water and Waste Water Treatment Department (budget $3.
5MM/year) to ensure compliance with VA DEQ permit requirements.
25% Manages staff activities to ensure accurate and timely water testing, equipment calibration and maintenance and record keeping in order to meet regulatory requirements.
Manages operation and maintenance of Park 500 Natural Treatment System.
25% Develops staff of Technicians and Interns by keeping abreast of latest technologies and using a team approach to evaluate opportunities to improve the quality of Park 500's:
treated process water; process effluent; and NTS.
25% Serves as ALCS interface with VA Dept of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to develop industrial and farm nutrient loading discharge standards and to develop plans for reduction of same.
10% Represents PM USA in external compliance audits including VA DEQ , E3 Environmental Management System.
10% Authors / co-authors technical papers regarding water treatment best practices.
Represents Altria as water treatment SME by presenting results of research to various industry, academic and governmental groups to share and disseminate best practices.
5% Qualifications/Skills Include:
Bachelors in Environmental Science, Hydrology or Chemistry preferred.
Alternatively, may substitute 7-15 years of experience in progressively more responsible levels in regulated Water Treatment Operations.
State of Virginia, Class 1 Wastewater Operator license is required.
Understanding of Federal, State and Local industrial wastewater discharge regulations as well as permitting, laboratory sampling and testing and ongoing record keeping requirements Understanding of organic chemistry and care and feeding and reaction of bacteria to changes in temperature, various chemicals (e.
g.
ammonia) and variation in food sources In depth understanding of wastewater treatment plant operations including but not limited to filtration, purification, chemical addition, water flows, settling residence times and sludge removal.
Ability to communicate clearly and in scientific terms to the academic and regulatory communities as well as to the media, general public and to senior management regarding water treatment and water conservation.
Mostly working in an office environment but must be able to walk perimeter of 45 (+/-) acre Natural Treatment System, must be able to climb ladders to inspect process equipment.
